Personally, I don't think Vince's voice is that
shabby (I can't imagine anyone else singing Crue
songs, at least), but all that drink and drugs
is bound to be effectual at some point.

Lots of traditionalists claim that early-Crue is
the 'real' Crue, but I disagree: I prefer the
fresher, newwer stuff, in which Vince is melodically
experimental. I suppose things changed during
'Generation Swine'.

Another example of experience-begetting-quality
is Don Dokken. I've been listening to 'Beast From
The East' for the past week or so, and his
nasally bollox is almost laughable now, but he
eventually overcame it, moved on, and the non-
nasally music produced afterwards, benefits as a
result.

A lot of metal singers (Michael Sweet, Bach, et al)
also made themselves more listenable when they
finally explored the lower range of their voice.
I think, anyway.

I agree, I can't imagine anyone else singing Crue songs but Vince. I saw Motley Crue in Feb and they were tight- yes.. even Vince.

I also can't imagine anybody else singing Tiny Tim songs, but that doesn't mean he didn't suck.

It all boils down to personal taste, right? So how can anybody provide proof of somebody sucking or not to a person that does or doesn't like the group in question. To my ears, they bite. To your ears, they are great.

As for album sales being proof, I don't think so. There are plenty of TERRIBLE bands out there selling millions of albums. Most people here will tear into Nirvana in a second, but they sold MILLIONS upon MILLIONS. Not to mention that if you ask people, more will have a bit of shame about liking Crue as opposed to how they feel about Nirvana. There is no shame in liking Nirvana, but with the Crue, you usually get a "when I was in Junior High (Highg School)" type of answer.

So sales are whatever they are. Millions of people bought Bananarama stuff also.

So if you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. No proof needed of anything.

Indeed, Carl - as far as the 'art' of music is
concerned, values are, not only relative, but
highly personally subjective too. What makes one
person attracted to a certain creative produce
is invariably highly different to someone else's -
eg., Avril Lavigne: I don't like her, but there
are plenty of moody 14-year-olds (-and Bill, of
course!-) who can relate to her, eh, output.

I know you wasn't comparing Vince & Kurt Cobain.

But, there is a guy who couldn't sing in tune for shit... Vince isn't Pavarotti, but I'd like to see the people who critisize the guy, prove they can sing any better.

When Vince is in fine form - i.e sober, knowing his
chops, etc. - he's great, a great rock singer.
Sadly, he's pissed more than he's sober nowadays.
